It’s difficult to say just how long CATS have been around: Some clues come from the tiny island of Cyprus in the early 1983, when researchers discovered an ancient cat’s jawbone dating back nearly 8,000 years. Since it seemed unlikely that wild cats would have traveled to such a cold and remote area, it was assumed that they must have originated elsewhere, most likely in Asia. More studies confirmed the Asian origin of CATS, and they have remained here ever since.

It’s easy to see why CATS are so popular with pet owners: Unlike dogs or cats who are considered “man’s best friend,” CATS can be trained to do just about anything. They can be trained to play fetch (sometimes called a Cocker) or fetch, and even to participate in obedience classes. If your furry little friend has a few issues, there are rescue groups looking to find homes for CATS as well. A number of cities, such as Atlanta and Cleveland, have CATS rescue groups, and you may even know someone who has CATS who needs a home.

However, because CATS are not considered wild cats and are domesticated, there is no risk involved with adopting one – nor are there any legal problems.

• One of the most popular breeds of cats in the United States, according to many experts, is the long-haired “Leopard Tail” cat.
• This specie was recognized by the US Fish and Wildlife Service in 1970.
• And although the USFws has rules and regulations regarding the size of cats, the range for this specie was expanded from two to three feet long in order to recognize all varieties that exist today.
• These cats usually have solid long hair all over their body, except for the tip of their tail, which is completely black.

The other popular type of cat in the US is the “Alley cat.”: As the name implies, these felines usually roam around in alleys. Their name comes from the fact that most Alley cats have short, coarse hair that is curly. These cats have a very limited range in which they can live: they tend to be no more than one foot in length. And despite their name, they are not usually domesticated.

Perhaps the most well-liked cat type is the cheetah: Cheetahs are larger than other cat breeds, and they have a natural instinct to hunt; therefore, they live in various parts of Africa, Asia, and Europe. While their natural prey is hare, they also enjoy feeding on smaller animals such as monkeys and dogs.

A cheetah’s signature short-haired hair is almost completely black, which helps make it very difficult to mistake a cheetah for any other cat.
